Work and Rebounding

Work this morning and rebounding after dinner.

Rebounding - 60 minutes.

An hour on the trampoline plus a full patrol at work has lead to the following.

I really wanted to train today but it got a little late. I'm excited to try out my new 200lbs keg. Tomorrow for sure.

Rebounding

A little busy this week. I didn't train as much as I wanted to at the end of the week. Today I got out to the garage for some rebounding with an additional something.

Rebounding - 60 minutes.

Kettlebell Swings - 20, 25, 30, 35 every 15 minutes.

I feel much better from today's efforts.

On Thursday I filled one of my kegs with gravel. Now I have a 150 and 200lbs kegs. Gonna be fun. Playing this next week.

Squats and Keg

What a great training day. Got out to the garage early. I was inspired by the performance of Canadian Mitchell Hooper winning the 2023 World's Strongest Man. The first Canadian to ever win. Congratulations Moose!

Today's training went like this.

Rebounding - 30 minutes.

Dynamic Stretches and Theragun.

Squats - bar/12 reps, 135lbs/10 reps, 225lbs/8 reps, 315lbs/4 reps, 345lbs/1 rep, 365lbs/2 reps, 375lbs/3 reps.

Keg Lifts - 8 reps/150lbs.

I bought a second keg. The plan is to get some sand and fill it to weigh 200lbs. Gonna be fun. Squats have been weak for a long time now. But, they are coming back. Today shows that.

Rebounding

I finished up the evening with an hour on the rebounder. This brought my steps up the 12,000 steps. A great day of training.

Bench Press, Dumbbell Press and Log Press

What a fun training day. I got sidetracked yesterday so training was postponed until today. I'm sort of glad it did.

Rebounding - 45 minutes.

Light Stretches.

Bench Press - bar/12 reps, 135lbs/12 reps, 225lbs/8 reps, 3 sets/3,4,5 reps/275lbs.

Dumbbell Press - 35lbs and 65lbs.

Log Press - 75lbs/10 reps, 175lbs/4 reps, 195lbs/2 reps, 205lbs/2 clean and press.

My overhead strength and stability is getting better. This is te first time trying the dumbbell press so I wanted to see form. The foam mattress I picked up a couple of weeks ago is doing great! Keep working and it will get better.

Squats

Under the bar again. Squats are the foundation of any strength routine. That's why I do them. That, and I like doing them.

Rebounding - 20 minutes.

Leg Swings and Dynamic Stretches.

Squats - bar/10 reps, 135lbs/8 reps, 225lbs/6 reps, 315lbs/3 reps, 335lbs/2 reps, 355lbs/2 reps.

Static Stretches.

All weights and reps felt really good. Better that they have in the last little while. Slow and steady increases. Don't rush it.

Easter Weekend Training

Yesterday I got on the rebounder for 75 minutes. The morning was slow and I needed to get my steps. Today at work I did two patrols so getting steps wasn't an issue. When I got home I  had a plan that went like this.

Rebounding - 30 minutes.

Tire Deadlifts - 2 sets/6 reps/165lbs, 235lbs/6 reps, 325lbs/1 rep, 415lbs/1 rep, 505lbs/1 rep.

The following is 505lbs.

And with that my plan happened.

Rebounding and Inclined Presses

I'm sick. Nothing serious but it's bringing me down. I feel congested, tired and heavy. Not working too hard but getting something done.

Rebounding - 60 minutes (total time)

Inclined Presses - bar/12 reps, 2 sets/12 reps/135lbs, 3 sets/12 reps/185lbs.

That's it for now. Hopefully I'll feel better tomorrow.

SSB Squats and Rebounding

Getting back on the horse. Time to slowly start back into training. Today was a combination of rebounding and SSB Squats.

Rebounding - 60 minutes (total time)

SSB Squats - bar/8 reps, 2 sets/8 reps/148lbs, 3 sets/6,8,8 reps/238lbs.

Still recovering from the Strongman competition. My lower back feels a little suspect. Good idea to keep the weights lower. A good training day.

Strongman Competition

I survived! I made it through the Novice Strongman Competition at the Training Grounds gym in St Malo. It's been over six years since my last powerlifting competition. I gotta tell ya my nerves were going crazy. It's the next day and I feel pretty good. A little stiff and sore in places but generally all right. Here's how the day went down.

We got there at about 1000hrs. It was good to be early as the place ended up packed. There were 8 women and 22 men competitors. 1100hrs was start time after a short athletes briefing. The list of events went; Log Press, Frame Deadlift, Yoke Carry, Keg Medley.

Log Press

I was pleased with this first event. The presses felt very controlled. My form felt good. I was limited by my poor cardiovascular fitness. 8 reps was my goal and I achieved that.

Frame Deadlifts

This was my strength. When I finished I was tied for first place with 16 reps. Again, if my cardio was better I could have cranked out another one or two reps. Still, 16 reps was my goal.

Yoke Carry

Absolutely pitiful. This event I couldn't really train for in the garage. I had no idea what to expect. This was way tougher than I expected. I believe I finished second last. I couldn't even finish on length of the two required to complete the course.

Keg Medley

I did a fair bit of training with my 150lbs keg in the garage. However, the event director didn't post whether it would be three or four kegs and how much they would weigh. The Keg weights turned out to be 115, 155, 200, 210lbs. Leading up to the event the first two didn't bother me. The last two scared the crap out of me. These two kegs sat in the back of my mind during the entire day. As expected the first two kegs went over the bar alright. I'm proud that the 200lbs Keg also went. By this time I was totally gassed and I only managed to carry the 210lbs Keg to the bar before time ran out.

All in all the day went well. I came away knowing what I learned and what needs more work. "IF" I compete again I'll know where to focus. The event was extremely well organized and the volunteers were amazing. I've signed up for "Deadlifts for Dreams" 16 September. It will also be hosted by the Training Grounds gym in St Malo. I'm looking forward to it.

I'm not sure if I want to commit myself to strongman the same as I did with powerlifting. I was more or less addicted to powerlifting and it became unhealthy towards the end. Strongman is amazing. The people are wonderful. It will be difficult to not to dive into the deep end when all I really want and need is to take it slow and casual. Strongman is a great way to stay strong and healthy as I get older (I'm 50 ya know) as long as I don't let my personal competitive nature take over. To explain, it becomes unhealthy to challenge myself too much. Because I'm aware I  think strongman is going to become a fun ride.
